Employment History

1998 -      Researcher at the INFN-LNS Catania, Italy. Prepared and helped test prototype focal plane detector and start detector for the proposed MAGNEX spectrometer. Simulated MAGNEX performance with GEANT computer tool.

3/99-4/99 Visiting Scholar at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, USA. Prepared grant request for the NSF International Programs Division. Completed article on proton transfer and decay from the continuum.

7/98-12/98 EPSRC Visiting Fellow at the Department of Physics, University of Surrey, Guildford. Analysed data from (11Be,10Be) GANIL experiment. Investigated kinematically-complete direct reaction studies for proposals with radioactive beams.

1995 - 97 Visitor at three nuclear physics laboratories in France, supported by the CNRS/IN2P3 and ADER of Lower Normandy.

1. GANIL (Caen): Worked with the "Exotic nuclei" group, preparing experiments on g -decay and lifetime measurements.
2. LPC (Caen): Performed feasibility studies for new research programme with radioactive beams. Monte-Carlo simulation of spectrometer-silicon array coincidence efficiency.
3. IPN (Orsay): Analysed and published (7Li,7Beg) experiment. Co-spokesman for p(11Be,10Be)d experiment performed at GANIL.

1987 - 94 Physicist at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, East Lansing, Michigan, USA. Liaison between visiting scientists and local technical staff. Set up experimental equipment, including data acquisition hardware and software. Member of the APEX collaboration. Operated, documented, and maintained magnetic spectrographs including A1200 radioactive beam facility.

1983 - 86 Visiting Research Associate at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. Principal research activities: heavy-ion transfer reactions and charge-exchange, nuclei far from stability.
